Payroll Officer sought by an international omni-channel hair & beauty service provider and retailer to join their team in Central Birmingham.


As Payroll Officer your duties will include:

  • Processing UK payroll for 3,000+ employees paying 4 weekly and monthly
  • Entering payroll information into the payroll system as part of the payroll team
  • Processing starters and leavers, including setting up commissions levels and targets
  • Processing authorised changes to existing staff members
  • Processing sickness and absence information and checking relevant documentation
  • Processing SMP and checking for alabaster changes, calculate SPP payments
  • Ensuring the POS system has the right details on hours of work and commission structures
  • Tracking and managing of payroll deductions; e.g. court orders and all other third parties
  • Recalculating gross payments due for attendance corrections after payroll has posted and arranging ad-hoc payments
  • Responsible for collating amendments and making the alterations, reviewing the trial register to check for accuracy and obtaining approvals
  • Ensuring the correct signatories have authorised the relevant pay forms and changes
  • Updating & maintaining the flexible benefits site, ensuring all up to date information is ready for annual renewal, communicating with starters, assisting with queries, producing letters
  • Answering ad hoc queries from/for Inland Revenue
  • Answering calls from managers and team members and dealing with their queries when relevant, passing them on to the managed service for resolution when appropriate
  • Completing requests for information e.g. benefits agency forms, mortgage & rent references
  • Adhering to GDPR rules and confidentiality

The successful Payroll Officer should have most of the following:

  • Experience in payroll processing and calculation – end to end
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Great communication skills, especially by phone and email
  • Advanced Excel skills and able to work with complex spreadsheets
  • Able to build effective working relationships
  • Experience of working with complex commission structures would be preferred
  • Experience of working with the ADP payroll system is preferred
